Snow storm number 3 hit today.

So on top of the 6 inches that were left from the most recent storm to hit last week, we added another 6 inches.

For some reason it only snows while I’m working an hour and a half from home.

Since Mom and Dad are spending their winter in southern Texas, Cade stayed with my aunt and uncle overnight.

On my trip home I saw only 1 jack-knifed semi and 1 car that had slipped off the highway

. . . and only 1 snow plow.

The road to my Uncle Tim’s home had not been touched so I had to put the Jeep in 4-wheel-drive to get through 2 foot drifts.

When we arrived home Cory, who had been out extremely early to finish his senior project had literally dove into the driveway with his car.

The front end is still buried in the snow.

Can I just say that I love my Jeep.

It managed to get around the stranded car at the end of our driveway not once, but 3 times.

Once when we arrived home.

Again when I had to leave and go get My Christopher who decided to leave his truck in town.

And yet again when we arrived home again.

Maybe tomorrow we’ll get the car unburied.

As yet again. . . we have. . .a

Not only was our heat pump destroyed this week by a falling gutter.

All, (not only the one that fell into the heat pump) of our gutters were destroyed by ice and snow this week.

The heat pump was replaced. Luckily the insurance has already reimbursed us for that.

We called the gutter people out to take a look and replace the fallen gutter.

The gutter man told us they would all need replaced because the weight of the ice had warped most of them. No joke about that either. I looked around and they are all completely stopped up with ice and whatever it is gutters get stopped up with in the deep backwoods. I’m guessing leaves and tree crud. Which is causing water to spill out absolutely everywhere.

So early in the week they will all be replaced.

Friday morning My Christopher got the car stuck at the end of the driveway. You remember, the piece of crap red car that I completely believe is jinxed. I’m really beginning to be tired of snow.

Saturday morning upon arriving home from work we pulled into the driveway only to find that the truck was not where we left it. It appeared to us that the crazy thing slid on the ice down a hill and was stopped from catapulting down the ravine into the forest and to a fiery death at the bottom of the creek bed by none other than a very small log. We decided it was probably best to leave the thing until after sleeping to give the ice and snow time to melt and hopefully make it easier to back back up into the driveway. So when My Christopher went out to try and move it he noticed the thing wasn’t even in gear. Obviously at some point it had popped out of gear and rolled down the hill. Oh yes, the ground was too wet to move it, so tomorrow while he is sleeping I’m going to have one of the teen boys down the road that has a 4 wheel drive come and help me pull the thing back into place.

Oh yes and to top the week off (finally something good) we are getting a new car on Monday. The jinxed car will be with us no more. . . . .for that I am grateful.

Another reason to hate this Indiana weather:

Okay so this morning for some reason I decided to look out the window and was astonished to see our gutter lying on the ground. I mean I knew I’d been hearing a lot of ice slide off the roof. We have a metal roof so when the sun hits it it gets warmer than your typical roof thus making the snow & ice melt and slide down our very steep roof. Well obviously it was sliding down and stopping where the gutter attaches to the house insead of sliding right off onto the ground. That is until recently when the weight became unbearable and it gave way.

I noticed there was still some ice hanging off the edge so I bundled up put on my boots and went out with a hoe to break off the ice in chunks so that it wouldn’t slide off in such big pieces.

When I arrived to the spot I realized there was really no way to do this without an extension ladder so I was ready to give up until my Christopher came back home from taking Cade to school, then I realized there was a lot of ice formed on top of the condenser unit for our heat pump. This was unusual because when it runs it stays warm enough to keep the ice melted off the top. So I moved closer and realized it was absolutely demolished. Obviously the gutter had fallen on top of it and with the weight of the ice it had broken the fan so that it had fallen down into the unit.

So yet another call to the insurance company. We have both our homeowners insurance and our auto insurance through the same company. Though this will be the first ever claim towards our homeowners. Like I’ve said previously: we are our insurance company’s worst nightmare right now.

My brother is on his way out with a new condenser at this very moment. Thankfully we have electric heat backup so we aren’t going without heat at the moment. . .and luckily my brother owns a heating/air conditioning company so we always have same day service.

Last night we had our biggest snow storm of the year so far. What normally is a one and one half hour drive to work ended up taking between three and four hours.

We made it home and just took a plunge into the driveway.

Of course we didn’t make it far. Matter of fact we barely made it into the driveway. My only goal was to get the car completely out of the road. We did accomplish that much.

So I suppose that means we are stranded in our home at least till tomorrow. Then we will try digging our way out.

I also wanted to take a moment to send a shout out to my friend Mike. He is a computer genius. He has helped me out so much in getting my new blog up and running.

Not only is he a great “computer geek”, but he is one of the best NICU nurses I’ve ever worked with in my fourteen year career.   So I’d like to say a big THANK YOU!! to you Mikey. You can visit his blog here: Mikey’s Blog to show him some bloggy love and take a gander at his many photos of his very beautiful daughter.

This week Chris and I worked the night shift on Tuesday. Upon leaving at 7:30am we were actually getting some snow.

I drive from my hospital up north down to pick up Chris at his hospital downtown. This part of the trip takes approximately a half hour. (USUALLY)

On this morning it took me an hour and a half.

We knew this weather was coming, so why weren’t the roads treated as such?

The entire trip which is usually an hour and a half ended up taking us three hours.

Why?

This is all the snow we got.

It wasn’t even enough to cover the leaves in the yard completely.

It was rather pretty and still is because:

the temperatures have been like what you see above.

My other issue with the weather is the fact they are closing school. Why? Because the temperatures are so cold? I mean do the schools have heat or not? Do Eskimo children get days off school when the temperatures drop to -10 degrees? I think not. Can’t parents dress their children accordingly? Don’t get me wrong, I love that my little guy will be home with me, but it just means he’ll have to make the day up later in the year.
When the weather is nice.

Participating in:
