Cade had an awards program this Wednesday for making the honor roll for this grading period.

They always plan these programs for early morning on these days.

I work night shift on Tuesdays at the hospital and don’t get off work until 7:30am.   Then I have to drive downtown to pick up Chris from his hospital.

This trip is around 70 miles one way.

Talk about rushing.

But we made it to the school by 8:40.

With a whole whopping 5 minutes to spare.

. . . .this smile was well worth it.

Earlier in the week we had our first spring-like day.  A day that was definitely warm enough for us to adventure out into the woods.  Cade loves hiking in the woods.  It is one of his most favorite things to do on a warm day.

Aside from making funny faces which he does almost every day.

. . .or at least when my camera is out.

. . .and when I tell him to stop being silly ~ this is what I get.

Of course no hike can be complete without the company of our many small doggies.

We see trees that are quite strange in appearance.

With the help of our coondog we never ever get lost.

Obviously he didn’t burn off enough energy. . .so a little jump on the trampoline finished the job.

This week Cory’s Rewind Group won a State Title.

They won the competition for the best High School Television Station for the State of Indiana.

For the third year in a row.  Against 32 other schools.

Thursday of this week My Christopher and I were scheduled to have a NRP (neonatal resuscitation) course that is just one of those very important things we must have for work.

So in order for Cade to catch the bus and for us to be on time for our class Thursday morning we sent him to spend the night with his father.

and Wednesday evening we. . . . . . .had a date night.

Every time I try to take a photo of My Christopher this is the look I get.  I know he looks stoned but at least there was a smile.

I showed him what the photo looked like and told him to try keeping his eyes open.  He did but lost the smile in the process.

After a wonderful dinner and some cheesecake boxed up to take home we went to the movies and saw “Taken”.  I figured I had forced him to see enough chick flicks lately that he deserved a decent movie that a man would enjoy.

We had a wonderful time.

My parents are on their yearly trip to Florida.  They have been doing this for the past few years.  After the holidays they pack up their camper and head south until early spring.

Up until this past weekend they have been down there by themselves.  My Dad’s cousin and his wife are there with them now.  They all enjoy camping together and very seldom do they go on trips without each other.

Not only are they family, but they are best friends.  As teenagers in high school they would all double date and were always doing things together.

Here you see my Dad’s cousin Bill and his son Steve who was in my class in high school.  He (Steve) is married to one of my very dear friends (Ginny, also a classmate).

This photo is of Darlena and her Mom.  Her Mom passed away just a couple months after this photo was taken.  They were very close and she is greatly missed.

This is my Cousin Steve’s (and Ginny’s) son Robby.  He is close in age to my son Cade.  He wears these glasses because he wishes he had glasses too (because Cade wears them).

As family’s go I can honestly say they are one of the closest.  In this day and age it’s not the norm, but I am so thankful they have each other.

Cade wants so much to be like his big brother.

He watches and tries to mimick every little thing he does.

Especially when it comes to music.

He practices playing Guitar Hero just so he may be able to play a real guitar someday.

For Christmas the only thing he truly wanted was a guitar.

So Grandpa obliged.

Now I have my own personal little “Rock Band”.

This is all the snow we got.

It wasn’t even enough to cover the leaves in the yard completely.

It was rather pretty and still is because:

the temperatures have been like what you see above.

My other issue with the weather is the fact they are closing school. Why? Because the temperatures are so cold? I mean do the schools have heat or not? Do Eskimo children get days off school when the temperatures drop to -10 degrees? I think not. Can’t parents dress their children accordingly? Don’t get me wrong, I love that my little guy will be home with me, but it just means he’ll have to make the day up later in the year.

This is our “leased car”. We never in our lives before this car have ever leased a car. We’ve always owned our cars and decided to try a lease because the car dealer we went through has a deal that no matter how many miles you put on a vehicle they don’t count against you if you go over the yearly mileage allotted for a leased car, as long as you either purchase or lease another car from their dealership when you turn it back in.

I’m not sure quite what the deal is, but we’ve had nothing but bad luck with this one.

I can’t even remember the last time I had to turn a claim in through our insurance before this car.

The very first booboo happened when we had a huge snow storm and got stuck in our driveway and had to call a tow truck to get us out. The towing company guy didn’t attach his hook to our frame, but to the bumper and pulled the thing right off.

This is booboo number 2. It happened when my oldest was driving and hit a deer back in April 2007.
This is booboo number 3. We’re not even sure how or when this happened. We’re assuming it was something that flew up and hit this wheel well (or whatever you call this) while someone was driving.

Booboo number 4 I forgot to get photos of but while in the parking lot of WalMart a little very old lady backed into my car and damaged the rear quarter panel.

This is booboo number 5. My Christopher backed into my friend Carol’s very big truck and damaged the tail light a couple of weeks ago.

This is hopefully our last, but definitely the most recent booboo. This happened on Christmas Eve. My son (obviously the most unlucky one of us) asked if he could drive my car to a hair appointment. The weather was quite balmy for this time of year and he didn’t think the roads would be slick, but was he ever wrong. He slid right off the road and into a patch of trees. You can’t see from this photo, but the rear passenger door also has a dent in it.

Remember peeps, this is a leased car. The lease is almost up which means everything has to be repaired before we turn it in in February.

Right now we are our insurance company’s worst nightmare.

This car is our worst nightmare.

Last night my Christopher surprised me with a secret birthday celebration.

I had no idea we were doing anything except having a quiet dinner for 2 at my favorite restaurant:
When we arrived to the restaurant the hostess sent us to our table. She didn’t take us to our seats just told us to go to the end of row 1. We were both looking for a small empty table and saw nothing empty at all in row 1. That’s when he told me to turn around and I noticed there was a huge table with a large group of my friends.

I had absolutely no clue he had made these plans. What an awesome husband I have.

I would like to say thank you to:

Carol – My very best friend ever since kindergarten.

Glen – Another childhood friend. He used to play on my brother’s all star baseball team.

Julie – My friend that I met while working in the NICU at St. Francis Hospital.

Joe – Julie’s significant other. He’s a business guy but is also a comedien that travels with the Bob & Tom comedy tour on occasion.

Jerry – We met through Julie at her birthday bash back in May. He sang karaoke with my Christopher.

Mike – Our favorite security guard at work. He’s just one of the greatest guys I know.

Jamie – A friend that Chris met working at Morgan County Hospital, he and his wife are now our friends away from work.

Heather – Jamie’s wife and my shopping buddy.

Michelle – Our friend we met in the NICU at Clarian North. She just moved back from California. We missed her terribly while she was gone and are sooooo happy she’s back.

Angie – One of my very favorite nurses in the NICU at Clarian North. She is so much fun and a great friend.

Merlin – Angie’s husband. We met Merlin the day we met up with them in Brown County back when they were vacationing there in October.

After dinner some of us went to:
Howl at the Moon is so much fun. This is the first time I’ve been to the one in Indy. Last year when Chris and I vacationed in Florida we went to one in Destin. The one there is busy every day of the week. The one here was not busy last night at all, but was fun nonetheless. I’m thankful it wasn’t packed because of course they told the piano guys that it was my birthday and
therefore I was forced up on stage so the guy could sing to me and put a bumper sticker on my backside.

Since I thought this night was just for Chris and me I didn’t bring my camera along so I didn’t get any photos of the festivities. My friend Jules brought hers and took a ton of photos so I’m hoping she sends those along to me soon.

. . . .and last but definitely not least. Thank you Christopher for a lovely evening. You are the best and I love you.
