Crazy is what that is, 320 pounds is the total weight of all the stuff we put on our lawn, it consisted of 150lb. of lime, 120lb. of fertilizer and 50lb. of grass seed.

Four years ago when we built our house the land that we purchased was part of a forestry that consisted of approximately 5000 acres. This land had never been anything other than forestry except for 2 small cabins of which there is 1 remaining. So basically it was extremely overgrown and barely passable. In 2003 we cleared about 1 acre of the land we purchased then had to let it sit for a year before actually trying to build on it. This is so that the root systems from all the trees we cleared would die out and we wouldn’t have to worry about any playing havoc with a septic system. So anyhow, since this land had never seen daylight not to mention the fact that land in our area is mostly clay it is taking forever to grow grass in fully. We have many bare spots and so this week decided to reseed the whole yard. Hopefully I’ll have pictures soon of the yard with much thicker grass, but for now the following pictures are of the very thin yard and the house.

Here is Chris with the seeder, this side is the worst because it is so sloped and quite a bit of water runs down and makes gullies.

This is the front yard which is the thickest part.

This is the back and most of it is very thin. The lump with what looks like weeds is actually an old stump from one of the trees we cut down. Those aren’t actually weeds but baby trees that we’ve allowed to grow.

Here is a closer picture of the stump. The tree that looks mostly white up and to the left is actually a dead tree that has lost a lot of bark, up close it’s actually broken and leaning against another tree, someday we will cut it down. That is the first one we’ve had die and another one may be about to die as the root systems were damaged during the build.

This old tree was blown down during a storm a few years ago. We leave it there because every spring we have baby deer that for some reason the mommy deer like to hide under this tree in the brush.

There is Chris again with the seeder. What you see next to him on the right is our firepit. He and Cade built it last year, it’s about 5 feet across and is awesome for weiner roasts. Chris and Cory are both pyromaniacs so they are always looking for reasons to start fires.
