This week at my birthday dinner I got this photo of my Dad and my niece Lily.

I just love the look of adoration on each of their faces.

My Dad is an avid outdoorsman. He hunts, he fishes, he camps, etc. If it has to do with outdoors, he’s there.

Many years ago he and two of his longtime work buddies went in together and purchased some land in the forest. Eighty five acres of mostly forestry with a couple small fields, maybe a pond or two and at least one creek.

Recently he purchased a motion sensitive camera and mounted it in an inconspicuous place to photograph some of the critters living in his forest. The following photos are some of the most recent.

Since I wasn’t home when I received these I wasn’t able to photoshop them in order to lighten them up any so please bear in mind these were taken and not messed with in any way.

This deer decided to check out the camera after it flashed the first time.

Notice the times on these photos. There are critters out at all times of the night.

I suppose you could say that I fall into the same category as many Americans in that I tend to sometimes forget about or maybe even take for granted the many freedoms we have in our country.

If it weren’t for the wonderful men and women of our armed forces we wouldn’t have the many comforts we have today.

So on this day I’d like to say a big “Thank You” to these people. Those currently fighting for our country and those who fought in previous wars to award us this wonderfully free nation that we call home.

Well the day was fantastic. I was actually able to have about a 3 hour nap before going to dinner. Plus my oldest son who is horrible with secrets managed to keep it quiet this year. Though he really wanted to tell me and kept asking if I wanted to know where they were taking us. I was strong and told him no repeatedly. So anyhow at 4:00pm we had reservations at Mongolian Grill on the northside. I’ve never been before, my Dad just loves the place and has suggested us to go there many times. Well we finally made it and I wasn’t disappointed. It was fun, the kids loved it too. I don’t think my Mom was as surprised as I was though, maybe my Dad is bad with secrets too.
