California Here I Come ~ (maybe)

I knew when I married my Christopher that at some point I would be making a trip to California.  I mean after all he’s a SoCal boy, definitely a city slicker.  Not much of a country boy at all.  But then again, I’m a country girl and definitely NOT a city slicker, but it works for us.

Just the thought of a trip to California has had me. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .petrified.

I’ve never been there, never even in my life ever wanted to place even my pinky toe on California soil.

Why?????? You ask. . . .~~ plain and simple ~they have earthquakes there.

So in a mere 5 months time I will be doing something  totally unexpected, completely out of character (I don’t usually do things I’m terrified of), and hopefully not detrimental to my life.  I will be traveling with my hubby and my youngest son to visit Chris’s family in southern California.

Now Chris’s Mom knows about this fear of mine and mentioned the fact that we have tornadoes here in the midwest to fear.  To me there is a huge difference.

With tornadoes you almost always have a warning that they’re coming or that the weather is so that a tornado could form, but with earthquakes they just happen unexpectedly and the earth could crack and swallow you up. . . .dead or alive (the whole buried alive thing is just another one of those fears).

So peeps please keep me in your thoughts over these next 5 months as I try my best to ignore the news and reports of all the earthquakes that happen.  .  .  .  .  .  .  .in.  .  .  .  .that.  .  .  .  .place.

I am scared to travel. Ok once I get on solid or even quaked ground..but the trip there would worry me to death. fears…they just stink.

NOthing to fear, my friend!!! Earthquakes only happen once in a great while! Sometimes you don’t even feel them!!

    Okay..I’m not helping am I??

Being that I’m a Northern Californian, believe me…no worries!!!!

You’ll probably be busy with the culture shock!! LOL

You should be fine… at least they don’t happen as often as tornados (or do they?! lol)

I lived in WA when I was preg with my first son. We lived on the bottom of three floors in an appt complex. I was at home one night and the pictures on the wall started swaying back and forth. I was like, “What on earth?!” I walked outside and all the cars were pulling over to the side of the road and people were coming out of our building and making comments about the earthquake that had just happened. I could not believe I had just experienced that. It must not have been a very bad one, cuz other than the pictures swaying, I didn’t notice anything else. SCARY!!

Don’t be scared – you’ll be fine! And if you feel an earthquake, just dive under a table and ride it out. ;)

Ok, I don’t mind if our earth quakes keep people from moving here, but I never want them to keep people from visiting. I have lived in San Diego for 41 years and have experienced a dozen or more earth quakes.

So far none have swallowed me up! The odds of you being in an earthquake when you are here are extremely slim.

I know exactly what you mean. I grew up in Mo, and at least tornadoes (mostly) gave warning. But you know what? I’ve been in SoCal for the last 15 years. And I feel much better in San Diego than I ever did in Palm Springs. It freaks you out the first coupla times, but you get used to it. A little. Mostly.

And like Michelle said, the likelihood of one happening while you are here are pretty small.

    (um, likelihood IS small)
