Are We In California Yet?
I didn’t get a thing accomplished this week that I set out to do while Chris went home to California. The day I planned to paint the exterior of my doors it rained. The next day I planned to try and stain the doors, but it was too cold to leave my windows open. Being inside cooped up with all those fumes would surely have had ill-effects on my asthma, as if I wasn’t already having issues during this horrible, horrible allergy season.
The afternoon of this second day was the day my “baby” came home sick from school. We spend 2 entire days minus a trip to the doctor snuggled up on the couch watching movies together. I love these times, not necessarily the “sick” part, but the fact that he still isn’t so old that he refuses to still give hugs and kisses in public and snuggle up together occasionally.
I was so excited to wake up Thursday morning. This is the day Chris returned from California. At breakfast Cade and I had a conversation that went like this:
Me: Cade, guess what today is??
Cade: I don’t know mommy, what?
Me: This is the day Chris comes home from California, isn’t that exciting?
Cade: Will I still get to sleep with you tonight?
Me: Well buddy, Chris will be home so I don’t think so.
Cade: Can’t he stay just one more day?
Yep, that’s my baby. My mommy’s boy. I hope he never grows up.
Okay, I know that Cade is learning about maps in his class at school, obviously it takes a long time to grasp the concept of where locations such as where we live are on a map in comparison to other places. I know he knows in his mind that we live in the United States in the state of Indiana on planet Earth. About a half hour into our drive to the airport to pick up Chris on Thursday evening he asked me this question:
Cade: Mommy, are we almost to California yet?
I think he understands a little better now that I explained how it would take days to drive across the country compared to only taking a few hours to fly there on an airplane.
I think some of the questions kids come up with when they are learning new things are just downright cute.
