Geneaology. . . and my boys odd fascination with cemeteries
For the past twelve years I’ve spent some time researching my families history/geneaology. Instead of writing down any information I find at cemeteries I’ve found that taking photos is a much quicker way of gathering dates and names of deceased family members.
When Cade came home from school today he pleaded with me to please take him a mile down the road to our church (Olive Christian Church) and let him ride his bike in the parking lot. It’s the nearest place with a flat surface in which he can ride. I won’t let him ride on the road yet because our driveway is right in the middle of a curve and sometimes the teenage boys in our area drive a little too fast and may squish him. I told him as soon as Chris goes to work we can go.
On my way out the door for our little excursion I grabbed my camera to take pictures at the cemetery while he rides.
Cade has always had a mild fascination with cemeteries. When he was around age two I had him with me at this cemetery and he trudged his way all over the place. He thought it was great, running around the headstones and playing hide and seek with me as I snapped photos. It was so much fun watching him squat behind a marker, cover his eyes and count 1. . .2. . .3. . .5. . .7. . .10, ready not, I come, I come. Mommy, come find me. Of course I knew exactly where he was since he had it backwards and counted out loud for me when I was to find him, but I pretended to not have a clue where he was and would walk up to the front and peek behind a few stones. As I would turn around the little booger was already out in the open sitting atop the bench between my grandparents and uncles headstones having his own little private conversation with who knows?
