Eventful Sunday
Sunday morning was our regularly scheduled blood drive after church. While waiting for me to finish donating, Cade whom at this point had been very patient called across the basement to me asking if it would be okay for Robbie to come home with us and play. Of course I knew the day was already going to be a busy one since Cade and I really needed to work on his diarama project about whales that is due at school Monday. So after thinking about it I figured it would probably be a good idea, it would keep him occupied while I built the diarama (he’s doing the report). So we all packed up, went home and the boys played outside for a little while before we needed to leave for Bloomington to purchase supplies for this project. So they play, I change and we are ready to leave.
Two 6 year old boys in Michael’s is an adventure in itself, but we did succeed in getting everything needed, then stopped by our usual Chinese Buffet (boys choice) for a late lunch. Afterwards while heading back home we stopped at the car wash which is very exciting for boys in general.
So we get home, the boys play for another 3 hours I make them huge strawberry shakes and I paint the inside of our shoebox to look like the ocean.
Around 7:30pm I figure it’s probably a good time to get Robbie home so off we go again. Luckily he lives only about 15 minutes away, because mind you, I worked all night Saturday night and still haven’t had a nap.
Robbie’s house is very exciting for any boy, they have 6 horses and now a new calf that is just the hugest baby, I think he thinks he’s a dog, he wants you to pet him and he returns the love by licking you. . .YUCK!!
So the boys run off to jump on the trampoline for a little while. I’m catching up with Ginny when all of a sudden the boys come running, Robbie yelling that Cade has blood. I look at Cade who had his hand over his right eye, when I pull it away his head is gushing blood, so I clean it off to see how big the cut is. Luckily it wasn’t anything requiring stitches, (don’t you just love how head wounds bleed and bleed?). It actually stopped bleeding rather quickly, but I notice his glasses aren’t sitting on his face quite right so we take those off and I notice they’re bent more than I can repair. He didn’t even cry, what a big boy, but he did look kind of stunned.
The boys decide to go pet the calf some more. While standing in the pasture all of a sudden Cade starts vomiting, not just a little, it had to be absolutely everything that was in his tummy. I feel his head to see if he’s warm and am just amazed that he doesn’t have a fever, he’s actually rather cool. He always runs high fevers when he’s sick.
I figure it’s probably a good time to go home at this point so off we go yet again, Cade vomiting the entire trip home. At this point I’m beginning to think he probably isn’t sick, but may have a mild concussion.
About an hour after arriving home the little guy says he’s starving and wants some chicken noodle soup which is another indication to me he doesn’t have a flu bug as he will not touch food when he’s sick, so I make it, he eats about 5 bites then starts getting sick again.
At about 10pm he falls asleep on the loveseat and I figure I’ll just sleep on the couch so I can hear him if he gets sick again. Fast forward to 4:30am, he wakes up and says he’s thirsty, goes to the kitchen to get himself water to drink then decides he wants to lay with me on the couch, so there we are all snuggled up together for about 10 minutes when he bolts upright and vomits yet again. Poor guy can’t even keep water down. I text Chris and ask him to pick up some more bananas, some applesauce and some pedialyte on his way home. I’d rather be safe then sorry, so we’re doing the BRAT diet today.
It’s currently 10am and so far so good, he awakened at around 8:30am and has managed to keep down about half a piece of toast and some pedialyte so far.
When Chris arrived home he said he spoke with one of the doctors at work and told him what was happening with Cade, and that he said it sounds to him like a mild concussion, so we’ll just keep an eye on him and see what happens. Poor guy, and he so wanted a trampoline for his birthday.
